Martha Approved: Tucker Hill's Pumpkinville, October 17-31
Martha would indeed be impressed with this pumpkin patch. Besides the great pumpkin choices to carve and adorn your front porch, you can enjoy DJs and live music, food trucks, hay rides, face-painting and a slew of other great Halloween activities in McKinney's newest old community, Tucker Hill. Visit the Pumpkinville website for the schedule of events. You can find something new to do there every day starting this Thursday.
Great Scott: The Rocky Horror Picture Show,October 18
If tradition means something a little different to you than it does to the residents of Tucker Hill, perhaps collecting your rice, toast, newspaper and cards and heading off to the Rocky Horror Picture Show is the Halloween event for you. The McKinney showing is this Friday, October 18 at 9 pm. If you have no idea what I am talking about, here are a few tips for your "first time".
Into the Woods: Halloween at the Heard, October 19
If you like your Halloween scary, but not that scary, Halloween at the Heard is the place for you. Trick-or-Treat along the dinosaur trail, participate in the costume contest (if you are 12 or under) and watch How to Train Your Dragon under the stars. For a bigger scare you can visit the Haunted Forest, or you can avoid scary altogether and check out the Heard's new Ghost Town, complete with Playhouse Village. This is the McKinney Halloween event that everyone in your family will enjoy.
The Real Ghosts of McKinney: Legends of McKinney Ghost Walk, October 19 and 26
When you visit our quaint McKinney square, you probably don't consider what lurks behind the walls of some of the most popular and beautiful sites in our town. On this walking tour of Chestnut Square and downtown McKinney, you will learn about – and possibly see – the man in black, the lady in white, the shadow of the hanging man and more. Along the course of the tour you will encounter Civil War soldiers telling stories around the campfire and you will be able to hear the scientific perspective on McKinney's Hauntings from TexPart Paranormal Research. Visit the Legends of McKinney website to learn more and get your tickets.
Run! Don't Look Back: The Halloween Hustle, October 27
Be honest. You bought your trick-or-treat candy in an effort to be organized and ahead of the Halloween rush on the candy aisle, and now you've already eaten it. Or perhaps you have the steely determination of a Navy Seal and you haven't snagged a single Snickers. Either way, the Halloween Hustle
is the perfect event for you, with 1K (me), 5k (most people) and 15k (that Snicker snubbing Navy Seal) events through McKinney's beautiful Stonebridge Ranch. Don't forget to register for the event.
Trick or Treat: Scare on the Square, October 31
It's the main event, Halloween, and McKinney does it right at its annual Scare on the Square. From 4-6 pm on Halloween, the streets of downtown McKinney will be blocked off for trick-or-treaters and merchants will be waiting for them, treats in hand and other fun activities will be available around the square. Our Environmental Education department is sponsoring a costume contest, awarding the best costumes made from things around the house, and a ghost hunt will not only be lots of fun, but give you the chance to win a $100 shopping spree. Get the details here.
No tricks here. McKinney Halloween events offer a little treat for everyone. I hope to see you out and about this Halloween. I'll be the one in the mask.
